Tragedy in Vancouver … Please pray
Yahoo! Canada is reporting that an Olympic athlete has died in a tragic accident while practicing for the luge competition. Please keep the athlete’s family in your prayers as they mourn his death. We pray, “Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Good Shepherd. You gave your life on the cross and rose from the dead so that the curse of death might be conquered. You are the living Lord. Please, walk with this grieving family as they journey through the shadow of death. In the midst of their grief lead them to the “green pastures” and the “still waters” of your Word. May they find comfort and healing in your Word. Provide this family with Christians who come bringing your Word of hope and healing. In your name, we pray. Amen.
The tragic death of this young athlete underlies the importance of Christians sharing the Good News of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection at the Olympic Games. Death is a certainty for all of us but the Bible proclaims that whoever believes in Jesus Christ as the resurrection and the life will overcome death (John 11:25). St. Paul writes, “Death has been swallowed up in in victory. ‘Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:54b-57)
